Invasive Plant Removal 4/18/20 – cancelled

To celebrate Earth Day, we are planning an educational and hands-on event to help preserve the brook. Our event will feature Luke Brussel, who for the past year, has been weeding and planting native plants in sections along the brook to help reduce erosion and provide a healthier, greener environment.

We have a date! Saturday, April 18th from 9-11:30 am. Rain date is Sunday the 19th.  This event has been cancelled due to COVID19 and continued compliance with CDC guidelines for social distancing.

The event will kick off on the Fernwood Rd Bridge with coffee and a brief talk on the problems and removal of invasive plants – in particular, Japanese Knotweed and Porcelain Berry Vine, followed by 2 hours of actual work to remove these plants from the banks of the brook between the Lansdowne Bridge and the Hickory Grove Bridge.

We need a volunteer crew! Please let us know if you, or anybody you know, are able and willing to participate on one of these teams.

·         Weeding – This is a great opportunity for young and old adults interested in the environment and/or looking for community service hours.  Much accomplished in 2 hours with 10 strong workers.

·         Bagging– As the invasive plants are removed, proper disposal is key.  We need 4 volunteers to assist the Weeding team, bag and dispose of the plants; including storing and putting out for pick up on the TOM regular schedule.

·         Cleaning – For younger kids and parents, we will have trash bins and bags available to collect any paper, plastic or other trash found along the brook.

To join a team, RSVP to LGCA@larchmontgardens.com by March 1, 2020 with your name, team preference, phone and street address. Thanks!
